Definitely stressful and the school culture can be very competitive. However, I definitely feel like I was prepared for college by this school. The academics are rigorous and there are many opportunities to earn college credit. Teachers are a mixed bag but most of them are good and well-educated and a lot of the faculty here had a very large and positive influence on me. There are a lot of opportunities to get involved here and the sports are surprisingly not terrible. Alumni network is also pretty good. The school is obviously not located in the best area but I still felt safe during my time here. Overall, I had a good experience at this school.

Do you like competition? More accurately, are you a fan of sad*stic teachers, an unforgiving environment, and inexplicably impossible homework? If you fancy these aspects in your dream school, then Bronx Science is a haven made just for you.
While I have been prepared exceedingly well for college academically, the strict, regimented nature of the school itself makes socialization a chore, and despite being accepted (and committing) to my college of choice, I do not feel emotionally ready to attend.
There are some great classmates and teachers at the school, but it takes a lot of effort to find them and to identify them from the multitudes who see fellow students as inferior competition or a means to an end.
Finally, if you are an athlete looking to play a sport at the varsity level in college this is not the school for you. In my four years as a varsity athlete here, we have had a new coach each year and a lack of practice and organization can often doom athletics at this school.

Bronx Science is a lovely school with a challenging curriculum. It has brought out the best in my child as the students are encouraged to be well-rounded with the offering of many clubs and activities. The most challenging part is the sense of competition between the students, however, there are many of the students who support each other and it is not as much of a "pressure cooker" as other schools. I am glad we chose the school and I would send my other child there without hesitation. One other positive about the school is that my child has met many students from different boroughs of the city and different backgrounds. It has been nice for her to learn about other cultures and develop further appreciation for them.
