Data Gathering is important as a community pharmacist Community pharmacists are trusted healthcare professionals with adequate competency to manage the effective and safe use of medications at the primary care level.Data gathering entails collecting, measuring, and analyzing information about a specific subject and is used by businesses to make informed decisions. The effective management of ailments by community pharmacists is predicated on adequate data gathering and comprehensive provision of information to patients during counseling.Inadequate retrieval or lack of relevant patient information that will enable community pharmacists to correctly assess and diagnose minor ailments may compromise the quality of care provided or lead to recommendation of treatments that are inappropriate, unnecessary or potentially harmful. Also, inadequate provision of counseling information that should ensure appropriate use of recommended medications may compromise service quality and potentially expose patients to harm.#saudipharmaceuticaljournal#datagathering

Pharmacies and HUBs are frustrated!โขWhen did performing benefit investigation/verifications become so challenging?โขMore and more returns continue to come back with less and less informationWhat used to be a routine and fundamental task during the adjudication process, has now become an origin point for frustration, and wild goose chases. These gaps in the returns are sparking the endless crusade and time-consuming quests by staff to identify the best next steps for the patient. The ubiquitous concern is summed up wonderfully by the quote below from a lead pharmacist, Director of Pharmacy Operations-โHow do we make a clinical and or financial decision on behalf of the patient if we donโt have all the key information?Guess work?โShe is correct, the missing information hinders patient care and slows time to treatment. If you are frustrated, you are not alone. One shouldnโt need to be Dora the Explorer to provide timely patient navigation.Pharmacies and HUBs are searching for a pathway to overcome this new barrier.Additional resources and solutions may be needed to supplement or replace existing processes. If you are Interested in learning about a solution to overcome this new barrier, reach out to TruFortis Health Solutions, LLC#benefitinvestigations #benefitverification #pharmacy #HUB #patientexperience

What better way to kick off my first LinkedIn post for 2024 other than sharing with you this Optum report - the cumulative efforts of listening to #pharmacists in 2023 discussing their role in closing the gap on #healthinequalities. Written by Meera Parkash and Vanessa Burgess the report calls for five imperatives for change:โ Create a stronger, system-wide understanding of the value pharmacy can bring. โ Achieve greater coherence and impact by building a single professional voice. โ Give pharmacists the means to make better use of data in a safe, smart and sensitive way. โ Enhance the training and continuous professional development (CPD) opportunities available for pharmacists. โ Put patients and citizens at the heart of everything we do.How can we use 2024 to ensure we are using the right roles in #primarycare to help more people and provide better outcomes for patients?See the comments section for a link to download the report ๐ #optumuk #healthcare #healthinequalities

#pharmacists should not have to be in fight or flight modeWith the recent news story of pharmacists organizing a walk-out, I cannot imagine the courage it took to make this decision. Taking a stand like this is so brave and sends an important message. Providing patient care requires intense critical thinking and creative problem solving. Space is needed to discuss important health matters with patients and their caregivers.Pharmacy teams need to collaborate with each other and other healthcare providers.Thoughtful decision-making and navigating complex patient situations is necessary.Adequate staff and resources are needed based on the anticipated workload.Time and focus are needed. #pharmacists and the patients they serve need supportive environments to provide and receive healthcare in.

โA pharmacist working to get people off their medicationsโฆ isnโt that antithetical?โFor years, pharmacy has been aligning itself with the dispensing of pharmaceutical medications, touting ourselves as the โmedication expertsโ.Unknowingly, this alignment has led to pharmacies being run more like fast-food restaurants with volume-based metrics aimed at cranking out more medications per patient per month and addressing โgaps in careโ.โNearly 80% of consumers see pharmacists as essential members of the health care team11and 58% prefer to visit their local pharmacies as the first step in seeking nonemergency care.12And a recent study by CVS Health found that 61% of consumers would like to get even more health services from their local pharmacy.โIt will take an ecosystem of pharmacy professionals, payers and business leaders to shift the paradigm of focus in pharmacy from reactive to proactive care and itโs happening through innovation and collaboration. Iโm so proud to announce that Iโve been officially credentialed with Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield as a pharmacist provider! While pharmacies already do many things that improve health equity, these activities tend to be uncoordinated, undocumented and unreimbursed. Now, as providers, we can assume greater responsibility for our patients and offer more healthcare services! There are 3 main areas Deloitte Health has identified in the research where community pharmacies could make a large impact on health inequities if they are part of the care team:1. Greater collaboration with the community to address the drivers of health (DOH). Integrating pharmacy technicians trained as community health workers (CHWs) has shown potential in addressing social DOH in several states where such programs have been implemented.2. Expanding preventive services. By adding distance learning to an existing evidence-based diabetes prevention program, community pharmacies improved participant engagement and program completion and ensured program continuity during the pandemic.3. Chronic condition management for high-risk populations. A health insurer reduced racial and ethnic inequities in adherence to cholesterol and diabetes medications by understanding the causes behind inequities and implementing culturally competent pharmacy interventions.Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/grXBkqQtThe Whole Health Pharmacy model of care that offers the patient pharmacotherapy insight combined with behavioral change in the community setting. Everyone can chime in with their opinions of community pharmacists being paid as prescribers in a variety of situations. No one outside of community pharmacy should be speaking FOR those of us in this position. What I can tell you, is that my team and I already do this day in and day out. We initiate therapy and we change therapies every single shift. However, these steps require multiple calls to a prescribers office, where most often, a receptionist or someone else with NO MEDICAL TRAINING says "yes OK whatever, I'll tell the prescriber or note the chart". So for me, make it legit. Let me, as a pharmacist and a manager, decide how and when I utilize this step. Let me HELP patients and let me make a difference in our totally broken health care system.Pharmacists are born and bred, raised to understand liability and risk. Allow pharmacist prescribing and allow pharmacists and managers (on site, Pharmacists in Charge, not corporate leaders) to decide how and to what we extent we can and should utilize it at current staffing levels and at future levels. #Walgreens#PharmacistsAreProviders#community #PrimaryCarePharmacyhttps://lnkd.in/eYwAHagm
