What is the Power Cost Adjustment aka Hot Bucks? The Power Cost Adjustment (PCA) aka “Hot Bucks,” provides SECO with a factor to accurately bill the member for the fluctuating cost of wholesale power. When power costs are high, the PCA is typically a charge.

In 1938, when the company was established as Sumter Electric Cooperative, Inc. we were able to turn the lights on to approximately 400 rural farms near Webster. Since that time, SECO has grown from a tiny, struggling rural cooperative into one of the largest co-ops in the state of Florida and in the nation.

SECO Energy has grown from a small rural utility founded as Sumter Electric Cooperative, Inc. in 1938 to a regional Central Florida not-for-profit cooperative serving over 220,000 homes and businesses.

The adjustment, known formally as the Power Cost Adjustment (PCA), will result in average bills totaling their lowest cost in the last five years. SECO Energy coined the term, “Hot Bucks,” to refer to opportunities the not-for-profit cooperative electric provider acts upon to lower members' bills.

This will allow less fluctuation on a monthly basis. In order to calculate the Power Cost Adjustment factor, you begin with taking the total cost for monthly power ($) and divide it by the total monthly power (kilowatt hour- kWh). The cost per kWh is then subtracted from the base rate of $0.005.
