Xkeyboard button control ?.

Postby zoktar »

After great success with XMBC for my gaming needs, iv been looking for software that could have me "enable" autorepeat mode while keyboard keys are pressed down, or "repmap" keys to do other things than it would normally do.

in games where the best button masher is king, this would save peoples fingers =).

this anything you thought of doing?.

would it be hard to make a clone of XMBC to work for keyboards?.

also if anyone knows any software like this out there please link me. cheers.

an example of my current situtation, i have to hit different keys every 0.5 seconds, most of wich are the same key, at any point where id not be able to hit that key within 0.5seconds of the last one, im loosing the game basicly. in events that can last over 15 minutes, thats alot of buttonmashing. holding down said key would ease and benefit my gaming greatly, and would enable me to focus more on tactics and other ingame events more releveant to the accuall success of whatever event. stuff like not dying, moving my character to a different location, so to not die, while still mashing my keys, the list could go on.

keys id like to enable autorepeat on atm would be 1234qerfcv those + ctrl, same but with +shift, same with +ctrl+shift.

Hi, its not something that I can do in XMBC - it would have to be XKBC lol but have you looked at autohotkey or similar programs? I would have thought that it would be pretty simple to do in autohotkey (although I've not used it myself so I could be wrong).

Although it's probably not so easy to implement, and It might require long hours of coding, I think such program would be much better solution then two different programs. I found XMBC awesome, but possibility of binding macros, remapping the keyboard etc would make XMBC at least twice as awesome as it is Xkeyboard button control ?. - Highrez (2)

One of the most important thing here would be layers integration - it would be impossible to achieve it with XMBC and another program.

But ofc I found bugfixing and improving mouse support as more important.
You might think about it in 2.0 (3.0? or more...).

... (in 7.0 you might think about joypad integration ;P)

lol,

yeh well as you may know, XMBC is a hoppy product and I dont have much time to spend on it - so give v1.52 has taken 6 years or so to reach, 7.0 could take a lifetime Xkeyboard button control ?. - Highrez (4)

I understad what your saying - but Im trying to keep XMBC as small as possible to maintain the low memory footprint. If I were to use .NET for example, the memory footprint would increase, but it would be far easier to do more in less time - but many people dont want .NET simply because of the overheads.

So dont hold your breath....

Thanks,
Phil
