What Is an Apple Cider Vinegar Gummy?
Apple cider vinegar gummies are a dietary supplement designed to provide the potential benefits of ACV without the harsh taste. They typically contain ACV concentrate, fruit extracts, pectin and sugar, and many include B vitamins.
Apple cider vinegar is made by covering crushed apples with water and waiting for the fermentation process to happen. Bacteria then converts the resulting ethanol into acetic acid. Studies in humans and mice suggest the acetic acid in vinegar can improve metabolism and help prevent fat deposits[3]Apple cider vinegar diet: Does it really work?. Harvard Health. Accessed 03/31/22. .

Health Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies
Many of the purported benefits of ACV are not backed by scientific evidence, and there is very little research on ACV in gummy form, but instances show taking ACV as a supplement could help improve certain health issues.
May Lower Blood Sugar Levels. Taking ACV has been shown to improve blood sugar levels among healthy individuals and patients with diabetes, according to a 2019 review[1]Kausar S., Humayun A., Ahmed Z., Abbas M.A., & Tahir A. Effect of Apple Cider Vinegar on Glycemic Control, Hyperlipidemia and Control on Body Weight in Type 2 Diabetes Patients. International Journal of Medical Research and Health Sciences. 2019;8:59-74. .
May Reduce Cholesterol. The supplement has also been shown to have a “significant favorable effect” when it comes to ACV consumption and blood lipid levels, according to a 2021 study[4]Hadi A., Pourmasoumi M., Najafgholizadeh A., Clark C., Esmaillzadeh A. The effect of apple cider vinegar on lipid profiles and glycemic parameters: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials. National Library of Medicine. 2021;21:179. . Elevated lipid profiles are a risk factor for several cardiovascular diseases.
May Help With Weight Loss. ACV has also been linked to weight loss. A 2009 trial of 175 people who consumed vinegar (not specifically ACV, though) every day showed modest weight loss (2 to 4 pounds) after three months[5]Kondo T., Kishi M., Fushimi T., Ugajin S., Kaga T. Vinegar Intake Reduces Body Weight, Body Fat Mass, and Serum. Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry. 2009;73:8, 1837-1843. . That group also had lower triglyceride levels than study participants who did not drink vinegar. As far as ACV specifically, a recent study followed 39 participants assigned to either a restricted calorie diet with ACV or a restricted calorie diet without ACV for 12 weeks. The group consuming ACV lost more weight[2]Khezri S,Saidpour A, Hosseinzadeh N, Amiri Z. Beneficial effects of Apple Cider Vinegar on weight management, Visceral Adiposity Index and lipid profile in overweight or obese subjects receiving restricted calorie diet: A randomized clinical trial. Journal of Functional Foods. 2018; 43:95-102. .
Potential Side Effects of Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies
The risk of side effects when consuming ACV is low, but again, research is lacking on ACV gummies specifically. Evidence on vinegar use and ACV use in general finds that side effects can include feelings of nausea and damage to tooth enamel.
How Many Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies Should You Eat?
When taking apple cider vinegar gummies, always pay close attention to the dosing instructions on the supplement’s label—and never take more than the recommended amount. Many of the gummies recommended above have a serving size of just one to two gummies.
When Is the Best Time to Take Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies?
Toby Amidor, a registered dietitian and Forbes Health Advisory Board member, notes that there are some claims that apple cider vinegar is best taken before a meal, “however, there is no scientific evidence that it does what it’s touted to do—so I would just follow the manufacturer’s instructions.”
Should You Take Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies on an Empty Stomach?
“If you find yourself sensitive to the stomach when you take it [apple cider vinegar] on an empty stomach, then you may need food,” says Amidor. “Otherwise, I recommend following the manufacturer’s instructions.”
Should You Try Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies?

There’s limited evidence that ACV has true health benefits—and even less on gummies specifically. However, there is some evidence behind a handful of claims, so if you are interested in trying this trendy, new supplement, talk to your doctor to learn more.
Who Should Not Take Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies?
Always check with your health care provider before adding a supplement, like apple cider vinegar gummies, to your routine.
While not specific to apple cider vinegar gummies, drinking apple cider vinegar may worsen acid reflux, and people with kidney disease may have a difficult time processing the excess acid.
Are Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies Effective?
As noted above, many of the purported benefits of apple cider vinegar gummies are not backed by scientific evidence. Still, some studies suggest apple cider vinegar in general (not necessarily in gummy form) may offer a few health benefits, and particularly may be effective for improving blood sugar levels in people with diabetes, reducing cholesterol levels and supporting weight loss.
How Long Does It Take to See Results From ACV Gummies?
Some apple cider vinegar gummy manufacturers report that while individual experience varies, some customers noticed results within the first month of taking the gummies.
How to Choose the Best Apple Cider Vinegar Gummy for You
Selecting the right apple cider vinegar gummy for you largely boils down to personal preference. However, there are a few factors to keep in mind:
- Cost per serving
- Third-party certifications (this helps ensure what’s on the label is actually what’s in the bottle)
- Added vitamins and minerals
- Added ingredients (like fillers or artificial flavors)
- Whether it includes the mother
- Availability

Can you take apple cider vinegar gummies while pregnant?
Always check with your doctor before taking apple cider vinegar gummies while pregnant. Some product labels for apple cider vinegar gummies specifically instruct people who are pregnant to not take apple cider vinegar gummies.
